DEVELOPING CREATIVE TALENT
Exceptional talent goes hand in hand with industry-leading skills to position UK film at the forefront of the international market. It is crucial that we continue investing in programmes that identify, nurture and promote talent, and help filmmakers build long-term, sustainable careers.
Skillset is nurturing talent by investing in the training of the most promising directors, writers and producers. This is done through the Skillset Film Academy Network and Accredited courses, by funding short courses and mentoring, and partnering with national and regional agencies to respond to local needs and identify a diverse pool of talent.
Creative talent funding programmes and training
Skillset Film Academy
Skillset currently supports three Film Skillset Academies, centres of excellence in postgraduate film education, which are:
- London Film School
- National Film and Television School
- Screen Academy Scotland
As well as accrediting the institutions and awarding them the ‘Tick’, Skillset also provides limited bursary support to allow students from less-privileged backgrounds the opportunity to attend film school. We also provide ‘course enhancement’ funding to help the Academies incorporate latest industry practice into their courses and remain ahead of the curve.
Skillset also has a network of Accredited courses in screenwriting, animation and VFX, and are currently developing and extending the network.
